Shipping the Site Spell Checker WordPress Plugin
November 2, 2026
projects wordpressI already had Site Spell Checker crawling published pages. I wrote that up in building a website spell checker. A browser spell checker helps while you're writing, but WordPress's editor is where most of my drafts actually live. I wanted the check there, without shipping the draft off to another service.
So I shipped the Site Spell Checker WordPress plugin. Version 1.0.0 is on WordPress.org.
What 1.0 actually does
Open a post or page in the block editor and run Check spelling. It looks at the title and content with an English (US) dictionary that runs in the browser. The draft stays on the site. No account, no API key, no analytics. When an administrator adds a word, that save goes through the same WordPress site's REST API.
I kept the first release deliberately small. Block editor only. Classic Editor and page builders can wait.
The crawl stays its own product
The free WordPress spell checker plugin is that in-editor check: one post at a time. The paid WordPress spell checker is still the whole-site crawl of pages a visitor can open — $99, once. The sidebar can open that scan with the site domain; the post itself is not part of the URL.
Two jobs. Two pages. The plugin works without buying the scan.
